  • Our Approach To
    Gradient Forming

When we first introduced the Gradient Master in 1985, there were many approaches to gradient forming such as self-forming gradients, freezing and thawing homogeneous solutions, diffusion of step gradients, the 2-chamber device, and the syringe pump. Virtually all of these techniques were slow and unreliable, so we set out to speed up the process and make it more reproducible. The Gradient Master is the result. Starting with 6 empty tubes, you can form 6 identical gradients in as little as 10 min, producing gradients that are more reproducible than any other gradient forming technique, made right before you use them.

  • Our Approach To
    PISTON FRACTIONATION

Using the topdown method to piston fractionation we are able to leave the gradient undisturbed while a piston - computer driven by a stepper motor attached to an acme screw - descends from the top, displacing layers through the centre of its patented trumpet-shaped tip, keeping the flow smooth and extremely precise. With our patented technology you are able to fractionate based on distance rather than drop or time, clearly see band visibility and recording to determine usefulness and have full digital control on the fractionation process.

  • Our Approach To
    Gradient Profiling

Gradient Profiling has matured. It used to be simply a means to monitor the effluent from a gradient so you could locate your particles of interest in the fractions created during the run. Lately, in studies of polysomes for instance, users have found the profiling traces themselves to be a valuable diagnostic tool on their own. This places more stringent demands on the flow cell: it must not only create an accurate picture of the contents of the gradient, it also needs to preserve the separation that the gradient produced so that downstream analysis is not compromised by the act of UV profiling. This is where our new, patent pending Triax™ flow cell fits in. We have coupled the most sensitive and accurate light sensing technology available to a unique flow cell geometry that minimizes the effects of laminar capillary flow, providing beautiful profiles while preserving resolution.
